Climbing the Forts Walk on Magnetic Island, in the hunt to spot some koalas in the wild. Not only did we get to see some sleeping koalas, but we witnessed the most epic sunset seeping across the hazed edge of the island.

Along the way, the remnants of WWII fortifications can be seen, tucked amidst the eucalypt and acacia woodland. These concrete remains offer a glimpse into the island’s history, when soldiers once stood guard over these same sweeping landscapes.

So, as we explored, we journeyed not only through nature but through time, witnessing a place in which wild panoramic landscapes and poignant history meet.
